JOHANNESBERG, SOUTH AFRICA – Chip maker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) closed its South African office this week, only two years after it opened in the region.
According to South African online magazine IT-Online, a number of staff at the firm have lost their jobs. The country manager and the channel manager, as well as admin staff have departed.
The reason for the shutdown is the economic climate, according to AMD. It will now go back to its previous system of appointing an agency to cover South Africa.
The firm is set to appoint an agent within the next few weeks, according to IT-Online, which has more details, here.
